Cunard accepts cats and dogs on Queen Mary 2's Transatlantic sailings only in the following ports of embarkation/disembarkation:

  • Southampton
  • Hamburg
  • New York

 

All animals carried to/from Southampton are at the sole risk of the owner.

How to book a kennel for a guest

  1. Make the booking and be sure to leave the following note in the booking "KENNEL REQUEST SENT – [INSERT DATE]".
  2. Complete the below template and send this directly to kennels@cunard.com, and add to booking notes. This should be done by you on behalf of the guest. Please do not give out the Cunard Kennel team's information to guests.

5. The Cunard Kennels team will reach out to the guest within seven days of the booking being made via email to provide an update regarding their kennel reservation and further information.

6. Your next steps depend on the outcome from the Cunard Kennel team:

      • There's a kennel space available - Call the Partnership Helpdesk.
      • The kennel space is unavailable - All kennels are allocated on a first come, first served basis. There is a waitlist for kennels, which also requires a confirmed voyage booking. If we're unable to provide a kennel within seven days of the booking being made and there's clear documentation in the booking notes/remarks line that the guest is registering their interest in a kennel, we'll then duly cancel the booking free of charge.

Kennel dimensions and costs

  • 12 lower kennels - 6 (H 36" D 35.5" W 30") and 6 (H 36" D 35" W 30").
  • 12 upper kennels - 6 (H 27" D 35.5" W 30") and 6 (H 27" D 35" W 30").

 

Important information:

  • Guests may only receive a free of charge cancellation on their booking if we're unable to provide a kennel within seven days of the booking being made and there's clear documentation in the booking notes that the guest is registering their interest in a kennel.
  • Guests are charged per kennel.
  • Cats require two upper kennels (one kennel for the litter box).
  • Dogs must have their own kennel and can't share a kennel with other dogs. Cats are allowed to share a double kennel with another cat.
  • Two kennels may be opened up to accommodate larger dogs up to 60” in length.
  • Animals under 25 pounds will need an upper kennel and can't occupy a lower kennel.
  • Animals over 25.1 pounds will need to be in a lower kennel.
  • Maximum length measuring from the tip of the nose to the base of tail for 1 upper or lower is 34 inches. 2 lower cages may be opened up to accommodate pet length maximum of 59 inches.
  • Maximum pet height for all kennels is 27 inches. Measurement is from the top of the shoulder to the floor.

Animals we can't accommodate

  • We're unable to accommodate the following breeds due to their size:
    • Afghan, Curly Coated Retriever, Bloodhound, Gordon Setter, Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound), Great Dane, Briard, Greyhound, Irish Wolfhound, Irish Setter, Mastiff, Deerhound, New Foundland, Doberman, Pyrenees, St. Bernard, Saluki, Weimaraner, Bull Mastiff and Malamute.
    • Some may say their dog is small for their breed, this is why we need to have exact measurements when booking to ensure the dog will fit.
  • We're unable to accommodate the following breeds due to the UK Pet Travel Scheme:
    • Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero, XL Bulldog (please follow the Government guidance on the breeds that are classed as an XL bulldog, which can be found here), or any mix of breed which includes these breeds.
  • We're unable to accommodate cats who have feline leukaemia or FIV due to health concerns of all animals travelling.

Vaccinations and certification

  • Once the kennels booking is confirmed, guests will be provided a guide and all proper paperwork for their particular route of travel, approximately five months prior to sailing. If they're travelling from a non-EU country (other than the USA), guests must be informed that it's their own responsibility to check with DEFRA for the requirements to enter the UK.
  • If travelling from New York to Southampton or Hamburg, all pets must be:
    • Fitted with a microchip (have document that states number).
    • Vaccinated against rabies and tapeworm (have document that states date given and expiration date).
    • Issued with an official PETS certificate, official PET passport or 3rd country certificate (provided).
    • Tapeworm treatment is required for dogs 1-5 days prior to departure (Eastbound to SOU only).

Pets are not allowed to leave the kennel area.  Only kennel guests will have access to the kennel area.

Can my pet stay in my stateroom? No, animals are not permitted in guest staterooms nor public areas (with the exception of service animals).
What will my pet be given while they're on board? A dog coat, fleece blanket, dog biscuits and a free portrait (this service is currently under review and may not be offered on your voyage).
How can I make a flight arrangement for my pet? Guests should contact the airlines directly regarding flight arrangements for pets.
Can I book a coach or private transfer for my and my pet through Cunard? Transfers (such as Cunard's coach and private transfers) aren't available to guests who use the kennels. This includes guests who've booked a Cunard flight.
How should I transport my pet to/from the ship? It's preferable that the animals are brought to the ship in carrier cages. However, this isn't a requirement.
Does Cunard provide pet food for the duration of the voyage? Yes, food is provided for animals. However, if the pet requires prescription food, please bring your own as we can't provide this on board. 
Is there a vet on board? No, there is no veterinarian on board.
