How do I book the Rocky Mountaineer Land Tour?

What is Rocky Mountaineer?

On selected Queen Elizabeth voyages in 2024, guests will be able to travel across Western Canada on the Rocky Mountaineer train (either before or after their voyage.) The GoldLeaf carriage on board the Rocky Mountaineer is the ultimate in train travel luxury.

For guests who choose pre-cruise, they will fly to Calgary and board the train, staying at hotels on the way before arriving in Vancouver to join Queen Elizabeth. For those who choose the Rocky Mountaineer experience post-cruise, the journey will be in reverse and guests will fly home from Calgary.

Accessibility

For guests using wheelchairs only to travel longer distances

As the platform is large enough for guests to pull right up to any rail car with their wheelchairs, guests with mobility issues are welcome to bring their own wheelchairs. These will need to be able to fold down into pieces of 50lbs or less for the health and safety of the employees transporting them. The same guidance as above applies for the use of mobility scooters. After guests have comfortably boarded the train, their wheelchairs will be transported separately to their destinations ready for them when they arrive. Alternatively, Rocky Mountaineer can provide their own wheelchairs to assist guests at the station. In hotels, we can also request rooms that are close to elevators so guests don’t have far to go (subject to availability).

For guests who can transfer from a wheelchair to regular seat

Rocky Mountaineer uses a hydraulic lift to transfer guests onto the train in their own wheelchairs. Their wheelchairs need to be 24-inches (or less) wide to fit through the doorway. From there, they will transfer guests onto a 15-inch-wide wheelchair that lets them move easily down the aisle of the railcar. Alternatively, if their personal wheelchairs exceed the measurements above, they can be transferred into a wheelchair owned by the train company prior to boarding.

For guests using wheelchairs full-time

Their wheelchairs need to be 24-inches (or less) wide to fit through the doorway. They will accommodate full-time wheelchair users with the use of tie-downs, in Silver Leaf Service only. There are a limited number of rail cars with the tie-down feature, and while we will do our best to accommodate, this could restrict travel dates available to guests. Meals will be served at the comfort of their seats and they’ll make sure that they are assigned to a train car with an accessible washroom, with wider doorways and grab bars.

Please note that the hydraulic lift will not be available for motor coach transfers and tours. If guests are not able to board the coach with minor assistance, please let Rocky Mountaineer know ahead of time and they will do their best to arrange handy-van taxi transfers. Inability to board a coach may limit the ability to offer sightseeing tours on coaches, but private tours could be an option.
