What activities are available for children on board?

On all our ships we offer a children’s programme exclusively for younger guests aged 2-17 years, available from morning till late evening. In addition we offer a night nursery for children ages between 6 months to 23 months.

Our ships are excellent for families because we offer a range of entertainment and activities for children, all of which is tailored to suit specific age groups.

Parents may drop their children off in the children’s facilities to be cared for by our Youth Team who have extensive experience of planning and facilitating activities for 2-17 year olds, as well as holding an enhanced DBS check. Children aged between six months and 2 years are welcome to use the children’s facilities, when available, provided they are accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

Our children’s clubs – The Play Zone, The Kid Zone, and the Teen Zone – are complimentary and offer a peace of mind of knowing that your children are well looked after and can socialise with other young people. These clubs are open on a daily basis and feature secure entry systems to allow authorised entry.

Children may only participate in the club designated for their age group, it is not possible to join a club for a different age group.

Each club has its own dedicated area on the ship:

The Play Zone is a permanently supervised play area, for toddlers and children aged between 6 months* and 7 years, on all ships.

The Play Zone is a bright, vibrant and fun environment, complete with an outdoor play area, an arts and crafts corner, a carpeted section for building blocks and other toys as well as tables for puzzles and board games. Other activities will include theme day activities, arts and crafts and circle games.

*Infants aged 6 months and 2 years are welcome to participate in the Children’s programme with parental supervision.

Permanently supervised by our Youth Team. The Kids Zone's programme is designed for 8 to 12 year olds.

A relaxing and sociable treat, The Zone provides games and activities intended for older children, such as gaming consoles plus sports competitions, arts and crafts and karaoke.

The Teen Zone is a programme for 13 to 17 year olds. Activities will include table tennis tournaments, deck sports, discos, quizzes and much more to keep the younger guests occupied for the whole holiday.

The exact age groupings for older children will depend on the number of children travelling on any particular cruise.

Please note that at least one parent or guardian must remain on board with your child at all times.

Access to the children’s facilities is on a first come first served basis.

A children’s activity programme will be delivered to the stateroom of all our guests on the evening of embarkation, this will feature details of specific activities during the cruise, which often includes entertaining theme days. Access to the children’s facilities is on a first come first served basis.

There are ‘sign in’ and ‘sign ‘out’ procedures for the 2-12 year olds. Please make sure parents/guardians who are collecting the child have their shipboard ID available for inspection. Children under the age of 18 may NOT sign out your younger children.

A registration form must be completed for every child before they attend the programme and even if your child will not be attending the child/children clubs. We recommend that you attend one of the initial registration sessions on embarkation day so your child can be registered from the first session.

Toilet / Potty Trained

Our staff on board can change your child's nappy if you agree to this. We will request that you consent to this on the Registration Form which you will be asked to complete as part of the Initial Registration. We kindly ask that you bring a change bag (with spare nappies and wipes) with you each time your child is signed into the facilities.

Children are welcome to use the friendly family pools. All children must be toilet trained before using any of the pools. Swim or pull up nappies are not accepted. This is due to health and safety reasons.

Night Nursery

The Night Nursery is a quiet area created to enable an infant to sleep. It is open from 6.00pm to 11.00pm (until midnight during peak season). This facility is available to children aged 6 months to 23 months and operates on a first come first served basis. In order to avoid waking other children we kindly ask you to settle your children before bringing them to the Night Nursery and ensure that they are settled to sleep before leaving them.  Please ensure you sign your child both in and out with the Nursery Staff on duty and that you inform them of your whereabouts throughout the evening, you will also receive a pager should we need to contact you. This service is complimentary and is offered on a first come, first served basis.

Room temperatures and frequent checks are made and recorded.

A copy of the Sleep Safe policy which is the Carnival UK policy to ensure that safe sleep environments can be maintained to prevent SIDS is on display in the Night Nursery.

We do not operate a baby sitting or in cabin listening service, we recommended that children 12 years and under are not left alone.

Cunard cannot accept any child under the age of 6 months as a passenger. We are unable to accept infants less than 12 months on any full World Cruise, Exotic Cruises or Transatlantic Crossings.
